Collections just got its biggest revamp. Here's what's new.
Collections are one of your most important merchandising tools, helping customers discover products in your store. As merchants run more complex merchandising strategies than ever, collections are evolving to support them.
Previously, building a collection often meant a tradeoff: automate it with a single set of conditions or hand-pick every product, but not both. Merchants worked around this limitation by duplicating collections, editing themes, or using third-party apps.
Now, you can build collections exactly the way you need them. Use multiple sources, target specific variants, connect to other workflows, and more. Your collections automatically stay current as your store evolves, all managed in a redesigned admin.
Build one collection from multiple sources
A collection can now combine everything you need: conditions that automatically update your catalog, hand-picked products, and even other collections. Condition-based sources update on their own, so your collection evolves with your store without constant maintenance.
Take a “New Arrivals” collection. You can automatically include every product added in the last 30 days while hand-picking bestsellers to feature at the top of the page. New products automatically populate your collection as you add them, while your curated picks stay exactly where you put them.

The same flexibility works for everyday collections, such as a collection of “Under $50” products. You can automatically include in-stock products under that price, exclude pre-orders, and let the collection maintain itself as prices change and items sell out.
Mix automatic conditions with hand-picked products
Combine automatic conditions, manual picks, and exclusions in one collection, then set the order buyers see them in. For example, build a “June Sale” collection that automatically includes every product with a sale price, excludes bestsellers you want to protect from the discount, and manually removes a few low-stock items.
Include sources from your apps
Your collections can now pull sources from apps, not just your catalog. Add an app source to a collection, then layer your own conditions and hand-picked products on top.
- Surface live merchandising intelligence. Many merchants rely on apps to track bestsellers and trending products using social data or industry analytics. Your collections can now surface these insights in real time.
- Reuse app sources across your workflows. Instead of recreating product selections across multiple workflows, define them once with an app source and keep them in sync everywhere. For example, a bestseller app can publish trending products to both your homepage collection and promotional emails from one shared source.
- Keep sources synced across collections. If an app maintains a source of products to exclude from promotions, you can now add that source to multiple collections. Whenever the app updates the list, all your collections automatically reflect those changes. No more manual maintenance across multiple places.
Create collections around specific variants
Collections can now target individual variants, not just whole products. Build a “Valentine's Red Edit” that includes only red and pink variants of your products. Variant-level collections carry through to your online store, POS, and Shop.

Reuse collections as building blocks
Collections can now be built from other collections. Build an “Activewear” collection from your existing “Leggings,” “Tops,” and “Shorts” collections. Whenever you add new leggings or update any of those source collections, your Activewear collection updates automatically. There are no duplicate lists to maintain, and your navigation and collection pages stay fresh without needing to be rebuilt.
Build and edit collections with Sidekick
Tell Sidekick what you want to build or edit, and it handles the setup. Ask it to “create a New Arrivals collection that removes items after two weeks,” and Sidekick will set up the tagging, automation, and conditions. It tags each product as it's published, removes the tag automatically 14 days later, and builds the collection to match. Then, simply review and publish straight from mobile or web.
Use collections across your entire business
Collections, including variant-level collections, can be used to power discounts, taxes, and other workflows.
- Run an “Extended Sizes” promotion by targeting just your XS and XXL variants and applying an automatic discount to that collection. New products in those sizes automatically join the promotion.
- Apply a tax override to a product group using another collection. For example, apply a different tax rate to products sold in a specific region.
- Create collections for internal workflows that are not displayed to buyers, such as tracking products scheduled for discontinuation.
Display collections your way in the redesigned admin
The redesigned admin gives you flexibility and control over how products in collections are displayed to buyers. Use the visual grid to drag and reorder products, switch between grid and list views, and control the sort order by price, alphabetically, or manually.

Start building now
Your existing collections carry over to the new admin experience automatically. You do not need to delete or recreate them. With this update, you’re gaining more powerful ways to extend what you've already built.
If your store uses third-party or custom apps that interact with collections, ask your developers to update to API version 2026-07 to support these new capabilities. See the developer documentation.
The new collections experience is rolling out now to all stores. Stay tuned, as this is the first in a series of collection upgrades coming in the next releases.
