Crafting a comprehensive business plan takes hours of research, writing, and financial modeling. Some people skip it altogether: In a 2025 survey, only 34% of Shopify store owners said they wrote a business plan before starting their businesses.*
An AI business plan generator can save you time.
Here, learn how AI business plan generators work, compare AI business plan generator tools, and discover how to use a general-purpose large language model (LLM) to draft a business plan.
What is an AI business plan generator?
An AI business plan generator is software that uses artificial intelligence (AI) functionalities such as machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) to help you develop a business plan. Entrepreneurs input information about their business idea, and then the generator writes the business plan sections, including:
- Executive summary
- Company overview
- Products or services offered
- Market analysis
- Marketing plan
- Logistics and operations plan
- Financial plan
Different tools ask for different information up front. Information could include a brief description of your business and your target customers. Some tools ask about elements of your financial strategy, such as anticipated revenue streams, cost structure, and funding requirements.
The AI business plan writer uses your input and draws on its vast pool of training data to generate a business plan in seconds.
AI business plan generators are purpose-built for making business plans, but you can also use LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude to write your plan. Dedicated AI business plan generators offer a more structured approach to making a business plan than LLMs.
Should I use an AI business plan generator?
An AI business plan generator can help you organize your thoughts and provide scaffolding for a business plan. However, you’ll still need to do your own research and fact-check any AI-generated business plan.
If you’re looking for guidance—but not for a content-generating tool—consider using a business plan template instead of an AI generator. Templates provide structure and ensure you include all the necessary sections.
4 AI business plan generators to consider
Dedicated AI business plan generators typically help with both the structure and content of a traditional business plan. They have user-friendly interfaces that guide you through a series of questions related to different aspects of your business.
Here's how four popular tools interpreted a test business called Top Dog Bakery:
PrometAI
PrometAI is an AI-powered business plan generator. Its features include a profitability and valuation tool and a branding and naming tool. It also includes business contract templates.
PrometAI asks only for a business name and a brief description before generating a business plan. The tool created a 43-slide pitch deck for Top Dog Bakery, complete with AI-generated photos and graphics.
You need a paid plan to see certain elements, including the financial summary. However, PrometAI’s free version does provide some financial information, including a profit-and-loss statement and a revenue calculation.
Pricing: PrometAI has a free version. Paid plans start at $55 per month.
Venturekit
Venturekit lets you create a professional business plan in a document format. You can choose from different templates and colors to edit its design.
Venturekit asks more questions than some of the other tools on this list, including what makes your business unique. It also asks follow-up questions specific to your business idea. For Top Dog Bakery, Venturekit asked about product development and order fulfillment.
Venturekit’s free version provides standard business plan sections, including an executive summary and sections on market research. You’ll need to upgrade to a paid plan to unlock sections, including plans for customer service, search engine optimization (SEO), content, and granular financial information such as a profit and loss statement.
Pricing: Venturekit has a free plan. Paid plans start at $8 per month.
15 Minute Plan
15 Minute Plan is an AI business plan generator that promises a fully fledged plan in just 15 minutes. It holds more of the finished business plan behind a paywall than other tools.
15 Minute Plan also asks for more details than some other tools. Those details include information on why you’re creating a business plan, who your customers are and their income level, your product offerings, and your business’s success drivers and weaknesses. 15 Minute Plan also asks for financial forecasts, including your projected first-year revenue and anticipated annual growth.
Pricing: 15 Minute Plan includes some information for free. To access the complete plan, you need to pay a one-time fee starting at $69.
Canva AI Business Plan Generator
Integrated into Canva’s broader design platform, the Canva AI Business Plan Generator leans on the NLP tool Magic Write to draft an executive summary. Note that Canva’s AI business plan generator doesn’t create a complete business plan, just an executive summary with graphic design elements.
Once you have your executive summary, you can alter its design by editing the color scheme and adding graphics, including your logo. Canva’s Magic Media tool lets you create AI-generated images.
Pricing: Canva offers a free plan. Paid plans start at $144 per year.
How to use general LLMs to generate business plans
- Define the structure
- Craft detailed prompts for each section
- Iterate and refine
- Double-check financial projections
General-purpose LLMs like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude can also help you create a business plan, but you’ll need to input specific prompts to get a comprehensive, investor-ready business plan.
Here’s how to get started with using an LLM for business plan creation:
1. Define the structure
To start, outline the sections you want to include in your business plan. You can reference business plan examples or Shopify’s business plan template.
Standard plans include an executive summary, company description, market analysis, SWOT analysis, target customer description, customer personas, a marketing and sales strategy, and financial information about your business.
2. Craft detailed prompts for each section
The quality of the LLM’s output depends on prompt specificity. As you create your business plan, allocate time for refining your prompts.
“You'll start to build up an instinct of what it is good at or how to phrase things to get the kind of answer you're looking for,” says Alex Pilon, a senior developer at Shopify.
Work on each section individually. Within each section, be specific and provide your own research and industry knowledge to guide the model.
For instance, instead of asking the tool to “write a market analysis,” try asking it to “generate a detailed market analysis for a sustainable pet food subscription service targeting millennial dog owners in California. Include current market size, growth trends (cite potential sources if possible), key customer segments, and a competitive analysis of three major existing players.”
3. Iterate and refine
Think of the initial output as a rough draft.
“If I was starting with AI for the first time, I would say interact with it as a ‘thought partner,’” says Alex. “Take things with a grain of salt as you build your intuition for how it works and what its capabilities are.”
Fact-check any AI-generated content. Plan on asking follow-up questions, requesting elaborations, and combining multiple outputs into a final draft.
You can fine-tune the AI’s output with follow-up prompts. For example, you might enter “Tailor my SWOT analysis to the direct-to-consumer ecommerce space” or “Point out the strengths and weaknesses of my mission statement. Highlight areas that are vague or generic.”
4. Double-check financial projections
Use your human judgment to check every part of your AI-generated business plan, paying particular attention to any financial models. In a 2026 survey from the Financial Modeling Institute, 94% of financial professionals said human oversight is essential for all AI-generated models used in decision-making.
Although LLMs can provide preliminary financial projections, create your financial statements using spreadsheet software or dedicated financial-planning tools to help ensure accuracy. Then integrate this information into the rest of your LLM-generated business plan.
