Shopify's new mobile app brings together the latest AI tools to help anyone explore and express their ideas

The promise of AI unlocking creativity is everywhere. But the path to using it is still overwhelming for most. Too many tools to choose from. Subscription costs adding up. Blank prompt boxes and no idea what to type. It should be easier for people to take a creative spark and actually do something with it.

So today Shopify is opening up Tinker to the world. Tinker is a free mobile app that brings together 100+ specialized AI tools for creating images, videos, logos, product photography, and more. No prompt expertise required, no subscriptions to juggle, just browse by what you want to create and follow your vision wherever it takes you. First previewed at Winter Editions, early users have already been using it to bring ideas to life.

"The time between idea and momentum goes down when creation becomes this accessible," says Rousseau Kazi, director of product at Shopify. "We're impatient for a future where more people are building, so we're pulling it forward. Make it easier, make it free, make it fun, so more ideas will make it to something real."

In simplest terms, Tinker is a place to play. A place to start.

"The magic of AI is out there, but most people don't know which tool to use or what to ask for," says Rousseau. “We built Tinker to remove that friction."

Making creation more accessible

When you open Tinker, you see tools organized by outcome: product photography, logo creation, social media videos, 360-degree product views, and more. Each tool shows examples so you know exactly what it creates and how to use it.

Select a tool, describe what you need in plain language, and Tinker handles the complex prompting in the background. Upload any photo of your product and get back studio-quality editorial shots. Describe your brand in a sentence and generate a logo. Turn a product image into a social media video.

"We write these very long prompts that are optimized for quality, and boil it all down to a few simple inputs for you to fill," Rousseau says.

That simplicity extends beyond individual tools. Tinker brings models from providers like OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and others into a single app—each one packaged with the same guided experience, and automatically updated as new tools launch. Instead of learning a new interface every time a new model drops, you just open Tinker and it's already there. And because everything you create lives in one environment, the app uses context from your previous creations to maintain visual and brand continuity across everything you build—something you'd lose working across disconnected tools.

"If you want more artists, lower the cost of paint," says Rousseau. "And cost isn't just money. It's the time spent keeping up, the friction of signing up for everything separately, and the learning curve of figuring it all out. We wanted to lower all of it."

Going from blank to built in minutes

Lena knew exactly what her jewelry brand, Loire, should look like. She could see it clearly—the soft, intentional aesthetic, the precise angles. But vision is only as good as its execution. Professional photography would have cost $50 per shot in the US. That’s $100 just to photograph a single pair of earrings from two angles. For a brand still trying to get off the ground, that wasn’t realistic.

"Tinker's image just always comes out the best. It always takes my feedback. I normally get the picture I want in the first, if not second, try," says Lena.

In her first month, Lena generated over 150 images for Loire's website, imagery that would have required resources she didn’t yet have. Beyond filling a gap, Tinker gave Lena something more valuable: momentum. Instead of waiting weeks for photoshoots and revisions, she could visualize her ideas instantly, iterate in real time, and launch her store at the speed of her own imagination.

For Yukiko, founder of Allie Beauty Protein, the challenge was different. After launching in February, her brand quickly went viral. As a solo founder, she needed tools that fit into the margins of her day. And for a supplement brand, the text on product labels isn't decorative—it's legally required nutritional information.

"Normal generative AI tools make pretty photos but can't catch the characters accurately," she says. "For a supplement product, the text on the package is super important."

Tinker's specialized prompts solved that. And because Tinker lets you kick off multiple creations at once, she could queue up a batch of product shots during her day-to-day subway commute and review the results when she arrived. Dead time became production time.

Building confidence through play

Tinker is a place where someone can go from a rough concept to a full brand identity in an afternoon, and actually see what their idea could look like in the world before committing a dollar.

"Through play, you find the creative limits of technology without any cost or consequence,” says Rousseau. “Once you understand these limits, you feel confident to reach for these tools for when it matters. Before they were our tools, they were our toys."

Shopify is in the business of making entrepreneurship more common. With AI reshaping what's possible, there's an opportunity to help people even earlier in their journey—when an idea is still just a spark.

Says Rousseau, "Show me a person with an idea, and I can guarantee they will get some value out of Tinker."

Tinker is available now on iOS and Android for anyone age 13 or older.
